Kids, Bikes & Smiles!
What an exciting day when you get a new bike! Sedona Toys for Tots provides bikes for kids ages 3 - 8 years old. 59 children from West Sedona School received new bikes and helmets. Beaver Creek, Oak Creek School, children at the Verde Valley Sancturary and the Hopis also received bikes. There were a total of 85 bikes given out to very happy, excited children.
Seven Canyons Golf Resort members not only donated toys but 35 bikes. Sedona Toys for Tots purchased the other 25 bicycles from Walmart with the help of SAVCO members, Ben Lopez, Al Coxe, Evan Holz, Karen & Leonard Barrow. SAVCO purchased another 21 bikes and 3 more came from the City of Sedona’s, Stuff the Bus event.
The word went out that we needed help! SAVCO and Verde Valley Cyclist Coalition, Red Rock Mountain Bike Patrol members signed up. What a great turn out! The bikes were all assembled and a safety inspection was completed Saturday morning and ready for the kids to show up at noon.
Kim Austin of Coconino County Safe Kids provided and fit helmets to all the kids who received bikes. Amanda Stanfield from Sedona Oak Creek School District and Wendy Lopez checked in the families. Sedona Fire District ran a bike rodeo, teaching the new bike owners how to safely ride their new bikes.
